New Men’s Bible Study: "When Black Men Stretch Their Hands to God"
Men of St. James, you are invited to join a transformative new teaching series centered on Dr. George McCalep Jr.’s seminal work, "When Black Men Stretch Their Hands to God."
This study offers a deep dive into the intersection of faith, history, and identity. We will be integrating the powerful theological voices of Howard Thurman, James Cone, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to explore the shared themes that define a courageous and authentic faith.
What We’ll Explore Together:
Reclaiming History: Examining biblical geography and ethnic origins to highlight the Afrocentric perspectives often missing from European theology.
Scriptural Literacy: Moving beyond the surface of a Sunday sermon to build a deeper, more personal understanding of the Word.
Shattering Myths: Tackling common misconceptions, including the false narrative that Christianity is "a white man’s religion.
Living Legacy: We are privileged to include living witnesses and descendants of Dr. McCalep, providing a unique, firsthand context to his teachings.
Whether you are looking for intellectual growth or a stronger connection with your brothers in Christ, we hope to see you there.
