Stephen Ministry

Life can feel heavy at times, and no one should have to walk through difficult seasons alone. In this Moment of Connection, we highlight Stephen Ministry at St. James Community Church—a confidential, Christ-centered care ministry designed to come alongside those who are hurting. Stephen Ministers are trained members of our congregation who provide one-on-one care, listening, prayer, encouragement, and support during life’s challenges.

They are not therapists, but compassionate Christian companions who walk with individuals through seasons of grief, loss, illness, family transitions, stress, and spiritual struggle. If you or someone you know could benefit from the support of a caring Christian friend, Stephen Ministry is here.

At St. James, ushering isn’t just a role—it’s a calling. Whether you’re 16 or 76, there’s a place for you in this ministry of love and service.

Trainings held monthly. No experience needed—just a servant’s heart.

Media Ministry

September Ministry Spotlight – Media Ministry

This month, we shine the Ministry Spotlight on the Media Ministry—and one of its most faithful servant workers, Dr. Wayne Blake.

For over 15 years, Dr. Blake has been a steady and trusted presence behind the camera. Through seasons of transition, work obligations, and even the challenges of COVID, he has remained committed. What can you say about a man like that? He embodies a servant’s heart—faithful, dependable, and devoted to making sure the gospel is captured and shared.

At St. James, the Media Ministry is more than just lights, cameras, and screens—it is a calling to carry the Gospel of Jesus Christ to a visually driven, ever-changing world. From operating cameras, sound, and livestreams to creating content for social media, this ministry helps our church reach people near and far with a clear and consistent message of hope.

If you’ve ever thought about serving with the media team, this is your chance! No experience is necessary—training is provided. Whether you’re interested in being a camera operator, technical director, or social media creator, there’s a place for you on the team.

So today, we celebrate Dr. Wayne Blake for his years of faithfulness—and we invite you to join him and the Media Ministry in using your gifts to reach “the nations” for Christ.

Worship Ministry

Kingdom Servants in Action – Worship Ministry Highlight This month, we’re shining a light on one of the quiet powerhouses behind our worship experience at St. James — Dena Thompson!

From making sure our pastoral team is fully supported during services, to lifting spirits with her humor and joy, Dena embodies servant leadership in every way. Her presence in the Worship Ministry is felt deeply — not just through her actions, but through the heart she brings to everything she touches.

Over the years, Dena has also poured into other ministries like Youth Confirmation, The Walk to Emmaus, and CMY — always showing up where she’s needed, with grace and strength.

Outside the church, Dena is just as inspiring! She holds an MBA from the University of Georgia, works at Equifax, and is a dedicated athlete with the Atlanta Tri Sisters, recently completing a triathlon!

Thank you, Dena, for being a faithful, joyful, and impactful servant of God. You are truly a blessing to the Worship Ministry and the entire St. James family.
